Command Center

For Steam Frame

Command Center

A VR desktop for the Steam Frame. Your windows and the monitors of your other computers hang in the room as panels, and one mouse and keyboard drive all of them.

That scene is live. Drag to look around.

Install

Run one command on the Frame and on each computer you want to see. It works out which machine it's on and walks you through pairing. Run it again to update.

curl -fsSL https://framecc.nomadsgalaxy.com/install | sh

Every screen you own, in one room.

This is what it does today.

  • Monitors where they really are

Align shows a few tags on each monitor and finds it with the headset's camera. Each panel lands on the real screen, so you can look at the real thing or the panel and see the same picture.

  • Every window is its own panel

The Frame runs its own Plasma session, and each window gets a panel you can carry, resize and curve. Drag a browser tab from one panel to another.

  • One mouse, one keyboard

Point at a panel and you're driving that machine. Click a panel and your typing goes there. Drags carry across monitors of the same computer.

  • Workspaces that travel

Each room keeps its own layout. Away from home, load your home setup in front of you. Your real home layout stays untouched.

  • Pair it by looking at it

Run the pairing step on a computer and a key fills its screen. Look at it from the headset and that computer is yours. No typing needed.

  • Close it and play

Closing the Desktop saves which apps were open and frees its memory for a game. Open it again and they come back.

Setup

A few minutes per machine. The first build on the Frame is the slow part.

  1. On the Frame, pair a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Then open Konsole in desktop mode and run the install command. When it's done, open Desktop from the SteamVR launcher.
  2. On each computer, run the same command. Tick the monitors the Frame should show.
  3. Pair it. Run cc-share pair on the computer, then on the Frame open Workspace, Machines, Add machine, and type the key or look at the screen.
  4. Align it. Press Align in the Machines window and move your head a little. The panels snap onto your real monitors.
